Meditation in Motion and Stillness
Self Healing through an Open Heart
Self Healing through an Open Heart
The state of the heart permeates all aspects of our being. A heavy heart is consumed by worry- reflected in one's face and posture. A joyful heart exudes strength and energy regardless of the circumstances. When your heart is open, the mind and body naturally relax. When you practice the forms along with the contemplations, you attain a gentle awareness of yourself and your relationship to life. Sheng Zhen helps you go through the ups and downs of life, seeing them as natural as the waves of the ocean. You experience a sense of confidence that no matter what happens in life, you remain balanced and peaceful within.
Hi! I’m Kathy Welch. I started this website to introduce more people to the beauty of Sheng Zhen. I first discovered Sheng Zhen in 2014 when Master Li, the founder, taught a weekend workshop in Santa Cruz. I was struggling with some serious family problems, and after 1 day of learning the first 6 movements of Healing Stage I, I knew this practice would change my life. I felt much calmer, more centered and at peace. I wasn’t able to attend both days of the workshop, so I continued to practice those 6 movements daily until I was able to learn the rest of the form at another weekend workshop about 8 months later in Santa Barbara.
Edward Willey is another Sheng Zhen teacher in the Santa Cruz area. He began teaching a class in 2015 that I was able to join with my work schedule. I learned from Edward weekly and travelled to take weekend workshops from Master Li when able. In 2016, I attended a 9-day teacher training in Austin, Texas. I began teaching my family the forms to better learn to teach. I attended another teacher training in Croatia in 2017 and became a certified teacher.
I started a class at the Oncology office where I worked in 2018 and continued teaching there weekly until the pandemic shut everything down in 2020. I also taught 2 classes at a yoga studio downtown. Sadly, the yoga studio closed due to the pandemic. I began teaching online on Zoom in April of 2020. Now we are able to practice with people from around the world instead of just locally. And in September, I began teaching an in-person class again through Dominican Hospital’s PEP (Personal Enrichment Program).
Having retired from my oncology nursing career in 2021, I have more time to teach and practice. I find my practice and understanding deepening the more I practice. To be able to connect to unconditional love, the original energy of the Universe, is such a gift that brings physical, emotional and spiritual healing. I am so grateful to Edward and to Master Li for introducing me to this beautiful gift that keeps on giving.
